Things and stuff about a couple of fiend'ancés planning a wedding.

The Proposal

Adam suggested we get away for the weekend because I was an angry stress-ball due to my student teaching experience and demanding graduate program. I was more than happy to get out of the house and away from my computer for a day or two, so off to Ogunquit, Maine we went! The thought of Adam proposing never crossed my mind---I was too preoccupied with thinking about how much work I would have upon our coming home!! ;o)

We checked into The Admiral's Inn, dropping off our bags and such, and went for a long walk through town. We wound up walking down Route 1 and into the next town of Wells---woops!! We walked by a lot of hotels and inns that were closed for the season, and also stopped into a surf shop so Adam could oggle over surfboards. After walking about 2 miles on the side of the road, we finally found a turn-off that could lead us to the beach. I was so happy to finally walk upon the sand, between the roaring ocean and fancy beach houses.

It was a pretty warm day, but very windy down by the water...which made getting a decent picture of the two of us together rather difficult!! I was determined to get a shot of us that was a) centered b) showed the sand or ocean in the background  and c) didn't have my bangs flying every which way!! As we strolled down the beach I would stop and take a picture, only to be unsatisfied with my bangs or squinty eyes or whatever...So we did this about 6 or 7 times before Adam cleverly snuck the engagement ring into the picture you see above. The funny this is that I didn't see the ring in the picture when I pushed play-back on my digital camera!!! I quickly glanced at it to see that my hair looked decent and we had good facial expressions, so I deemed it frame'able. Adam took the camera from my hands to look at it and then said, "Wait, what's that??" and handed it back to me. I take a closer look, STILL not seeing anything until I zoomed in on a little sparkly something-or-other in the bottom of the frame. That was when I could see, in my peripheral vision, Adam going down on one knee and holding a diamond ring up to me.

I don't know if I heard all that he said---I couldn't believe it was finally happening! On a beautiful beach! When I least expected it! I think he said something along the lines of, "I'm sorry it took me so long...... I love you so much....Will you be my wife???" I cried of course, said yes, and hugged him around the neck so long and so hard he had to pry me off. I had to take off the janky piece-of-crap rings I had been wearing on my ring finger as a decoy (which worked to deter the sleazy cashier at Dollar Tree!), and then Adam slipped on the gorgeous three-stone diamond ring that I had made mention (more than one) that I loved.
I don't think I've stopped looking at my left hand since!! ;o)
